LOOKING AFTER YOUR WADERS PROPERLY

Many anglers use waders to reach areas which are difficult to access. Over time and after several trips a few signs of wear can appear (leaks, water repellency). This is nothing to worry about because they are not particularly difficult to look after. We will explain how to look after and easily repair your waders so you can keep using them for several more seasons.

REGULAR CARE

After each trip we recommend that you rinse your waders in soapy water to remove deposits from the last fishing session (sand, soil, silt, etc.).

We advise you to dry your waders properly both inside and out. This helps to stop bacteria developing. The waders should dry in a warm dry space. Exposure to the sun can damage the water repellent treatment.

You can also disinfect the inside of your waders using a disinfectant spray.

REPAIRING WADERS

Finding leaks in 3 steps :
Sometimes it's hard to find the smallest leaks with the naked eye. Here's how to find them easily in three steps.

-Step 1:  hold up the previously dried waders inside out by the braces.
-Step 2:  fill the leg which seems to be damaged with water.
-Step 3: mark the place where the leak is with an indelible marker and leave to dry.

Repairing the leak

Neoprene waders:
With this type of waders, the leak can be sealed with a dab of Neoprene glue. Leave the glue to dry for around 24 hours.

Breathable waders:
To repair a leak in breathable Waders, you need an iron and a Caperlan wader repair kit.

Repairing in 6 steps:

Réparer ses waders en six étapes

-Step 1: turn the waders inside out. They should be inside out.

-Step 2: close the cut.

-Step 3: cut out a piece big enough to cover the cut.

-Step 4: place the piece of material over the cut.

-Step 5: glue the piece of material using an iron heated to 130°. Keep the iron pressed on the piece of material for around 20 seconds.

-Step 6: the leak is repaired.

Renewing the water repellent treatment:

After several fishing seasons, the water repellency, i.e. the fabric's ability to make water slide off its surface, is likely to have faded. To counter this phenomenon, you can spray waterproofing on your waders.
