HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR MINNOW

The choice of minnow is mainly based on the depth at which you’ll be fishing. There are several types for use at all the various depths. Below is an explanation of how to make the best choice of minnow.

THE STICKBAIT

This minnow is for use at the surface. It mimics the behaviour of an injured or weakened fish attempting to escape. For this, you use the “Walking the dog” method, which gives it the typical zig-zagging movement.

THE POPPER

This minnow is for use at the surface. It’s worked with tugs on the rod, and makes a “Pop” noise at each tug. This distinctive action imitates that of an injured fish.

THE JERKBAIT

This lure is easily worked in mid-water by casting and reeling in. Its depth of swim allows it to operate at depths of up to 50 cm..

THE CRANKBAIT

This stubby minnow produces a lot of vibration, and so can be used in large bodies of water by casting and reeling in. It can be used at depths of up to 1.5 m.

THE LIPLESS

This sinking lure produces a lot of vibration, and thus can be used in all depths of water, from the surface to the bottom, varying the speed of reeling in.
